The Transformation of Dr. Jekyll

Based on the novella by Robert Louis Stevenson

Jekyll is officially Rabbit Hole’s first production. The Ensemble on this one consisted of Amanda Broomell, Paul Daily, Edward Elefterion, and Emily Hartford, and the entire piece was created over a six-week rehearsal period. Two chairs, a mask, a blindfold, and two shadow puppets later...we had our play. Our version was a tragicomedy about the downfall of young wunderkind Jekyll told from beyond the grave.

The play explores themes of control, shame, power and seduction, and the production was a clear example of our trademark aesthetic of bare-bones, less-is-indeed-more austerity. Almost all of the lighting was done with three clip lights focused by cast members as needed.

The original production was picked up by FringeNYC in 2006, where it was a popular favorite.

reviews

"The cast and director Edward Elefterion show expertise in moving us all over the map with very very very little except their own commitment, a lot of mime, a kazoo, and two simple hand-held lights manipulated hither and yon by the nimble performers. What is admirable and fun...is the staging and the clarity of its storytelling."

"Under [Elefterion's] guidance, the actors are the sole focus...with great success."

"...the production, directed by Edward Elefterion, is highly imaginative...it is an hour of pure theatrical story telling...8 out of 10!"
