Land of the Undead
based on Nosferatu by Rabbit Hole Ensemble and Dracula by Bram Stoker
Rabbit Hole developed Land of the Undead with playwright Stanton Wood. The play tells the story of Jonathan Harker's journey to the mysteriously compelling and remote Castle Nosferatu. While the Count reviews the deed of his new home in the city, he sees a picture of Harker's wife in a locket. And...as they say...the unrest is history.
The production stood the idea of a chorus on its head. We used a three-person chorus to create a soundscape of our hero's inner experience. You can see them in action in the photo on the left.
But the chorus didn't stop there. They also played various other characters as needed: an inn-keeper and carriage driver (both with thick accents), an overworked horse (who also had an accent), and Renfield of course (no accent, just a little loopy).
The second half is told in Nosferatu: The Morning of My Death.
Both halves come together in The Night of Nosferatu.

"Notable for its effective use of story-theatre techniques...under the seamless direction of Edward Elefterion, [Land of the Undead] proceeds with minimal props, less scenery, and total seriousness."
