Candide Americana
(with apologies to Voltaire)
by Stanton Wood
The original work, Candide Americana, by Resident Playwright Stanton Wood, will be a new adaptation of Voltaire's famous work.
This new work transplants the hero's famous journey around the world to a journey across time and terrain in the United States of America.
Candide's journey begins in Bosnia during the 1990s war, after which he emigrates to America, searching for his true love across a tumultuous American landscape that includes New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and New York City on September 11th. His search for love soon becomes a search for meaning and hope in seemingly hopeless circumstances.
