Actors
There are a few things you should know:
- If you haven't seen our work, that would be a good place to start. You should know something about what you're getting into.
- Read our mission statement.
- We make fools of ourselves daily. In rehearsals. No one seems to notice.
- We're a very physical company. We like using our bodies in very specific, repeatable ways.
- We like live sound. We don't use piped in music/sound. The actors do everything live.
- We rehearse four-five times a week: nights and usually a weekend day. We know people who think that's a lot. We think it's not enough but we make due.
- We do a lot of playing in rehearsals. So if you're an actor who thinks your job is mainly learning your lines and doing the blocking, we're not for you.
- We prefer to try ideas out instead of talking about them. We talk about them afterwards.
- We like choices and we'll do several different "versions" of a scene, moment, design, text, etc. before we decide which is best.
- We change things around a lot. Things eventually get fixed rather snugly but on our way there, we try lots of things...sometimes very contradictory things. If you're not comfortable with change you won't be comfortable in our rehearsals.
If you're still interested in working with us:
- We don't do cold readings.
- First there's an interview with the director. This is usually over a cup of coffee. Then, if all goes well, we move on to a work session with company members...and take it from there.
- If you're thinking that Rabbit Hole might be a way to launch your career, we're not going to be a match. We do a specific kind of work and we're looking towards building our ensemble not jobbing people in to do a role, or serving as a stepping stone to other things.
- We are interested in actors who like to tell stories, are comfortable in their bodies, demonstrate control over their bodies and voices, and, above all...actors who are present in the room with everyone.
